I work in a university. Today during lunchtime, I went to a nearby café to dapao my food. Just as I was about to approach the queue, two female students ran right in front of me to join the line. I let it go — they were technically nearer, even though it was rude and inconsiderate. But moments later, two of their friends shamelessly cut the queue by squeezing in with them. I tapped one of the girls on the back and told them to queue properly. Only then did they reluctantly move behind me, giggling and poking fun of the situation like immature children. Honestly, I’m shocked. Singapore claims to nurture "top students," but clearly good character isn't part of the curriculum. It's disappointing to see young adults who excel academically yet lack basic courtesy and respect for others. Maybe some of these students seriously need to return to kindergarten — because clearly, they have not even mastered the first lesson: how to queue up properly.
