To those who think that the public healthcare industry is good and all, think again. Sure, iron rice bowl, but the way they treat healthcare admin is very different from how they treat frontline staff. If you are a doctor, nurse, allied health, your promotion will be zoom zoom zoom supernova, with occasionally exceptions. However, if you are a healthcare admin, and you are hired through the normal jobstreet route, sorry your promotion will be slow, with the exception of the employees in their management programme. From exec you thought you will go to senior exec in 2 years, nope, there's still an exec 1 above exec 2. From exec 1 to senior exec you need another 4 years. Even if your performance is good, HR will just say that you haven't hit the 4 years mark so they cannot promote you. That's when people feel demoralised and start to be less efficient and hardworking because all the hard work is to no avail. Healthcare industry is also specially particular about qualifications. If you have paper qualification, you have a higher chance of going up to management position, even if your management skills are shit. If you just have a bachelors, then sayonara. You will join the snails in the snail race. Even with a grad dip or specialist dip, you will never ever ever, get to senior position as fast as others. Conclusion is if you want a faster promotion with more bonus, just stay private. Heh don't even think about transferring from whatever GH to the GH near you. Within healthcare this is called lateral transfer and there won't be an increase in salary when this happens, a weird agreement that all healthcare clusters agreed upon. So your chances are akin to none. An influencer earns more than a healthcare admin. And these people are the ones that get all the shit done (front line staff aside, heh we still adore you).
