#1282: Reneging in the future - internship dilemma
#1282internshipsadvice· 1608d ago

Hi all, I'm facing a dilemma with regards to internships. I have been offered an internship at a startup over the summer, and I have verbally accepted the internship offer but have yet to reply with my signed contract. The internship has not been officially approved for SIP by NUS yet and I can only ask the company to do so in a few weeks when the self-sourced internship applications open up. My issue has two aspects: 1. Should I reject the offer and wait for a better opportunity to come along? I have also applied to other bigger companies, but have not done any technical interview practice so I am not sure of my chances. 2. What if I replied with a signed contract, and later on NUS decides that the internship does not qualify for SIP? Can I still reject? Because it seems to me like it will take a while for NUS to get back to me on whether it qualifies for SIP and I cannot ask the company to wait around that long. Overall, would it be alright to renege in the future even after submitting a signed contract/how should I navigate this situation? Thanks!

Hello! I think you can check with the internship department first to see if the internship qualifies for SIP, and also explain to the company that you are hoping to convert the internship to SIP. From my experience, the school got back to me on whether the internship qualifies for SIP within 1/2 working days.
