So I used to question NUS choice of dropping CS2105 computer networking as a core module and replacing it with an AI intro mod (CS2109S). It seemed like hopping on the AI bandwagon. But now thinking about it, half of CS2105 is just studying history and the other half is worth like 2 mcs. I still think it's very important to gain an appreciation of how the internet works, but that can be done through other means as well. Perhaps equally important it has become to have some crude understanding of how AI algorithms work and why they can go wrong, since they now perform such large functions in society like serving our youtube recommendations and google search results.

CS2105 knowledge is commonly tested in interviews (esp for backend), just do both mods!

Did 2102 and thought it should have been a core mod too. You can still choose to take these on your own I guess. 2102/5/6 can be tested in interviews

Note that CS2105 stopped being a core requirement long before CS2109S became one. Hence, I don't think the latter really "replaced" the former.

The 2k core mods have been shrinking.... long long time ago (old geezer warning), the 2k core mod includes PL (2104), Networking (2105), DB (2102) on top of the current set. Essentially all mods with 21xx are core back then. We have gone toward a "lighter core" to open up more space for DDP, major, minor etc. (This is true for most discipline on campus).
